This years ambassador is Damian Wales, 19, who has been chosen by the Brighouse Charity Gala Committee and Brighouse Ladies Circle to fulfil the role and represent the community.

After Brighouse Ladies Circle advertised for nominees Damian was put forward by fellow Scout leader, Connor Michaels. Damian was awarded the role because of his contribution to the communities in and around Brighouse.

Damian also has a wider role in Scouting locally and is responsible for all those completing the service section of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award by acting as a young leader, he describes this as a “…great way to give back to Scouting for all the fun you’ve had and are having!”

Damian’s first day as Brighouse Charity Gala Ambassador will begin with him judging the floats in the parade, and will be followed by the ceremony where he takes over from 2017’s Brighouse Charity Gala Ambassador Bethany Arnett. Representatives from Brighouse Ladies Circle and the Brighouse Charity Gala Committee will ensure the rest of Damian’s day is full, and will give him a guided tour of all the stalls, as well as a meeting with the Mayor.

As well as attending the Gala Damian is keen to urge people to engage with the local community and make it better for everyone. “I enjoy engaging with young people and sharing my experiences with the organisations I support. There are loads of initiatives locally that people can get involved in and I can guarantee that people will get more out of it than they expect.”

The Brighouse Charity Gala this year is taking place on Saturday 30th June at Wellholme Park from 11am, so please come along and support Damian and all the worthwhile local charities.
